Abortion Myth: By outlawing abortion, women will be in danger as they seek out dangerous back-alley abortions. 5,000 to 10,000 women every year died as a result of illegal abortions before Roe vs Wade.
No one is forced to break the law—people choose to break the law. The laws against theft do not force people to seek out alternative, more dangerous ways to steal. The laws simply forbid a certain immorality. Any decisions on the part of the thief are his own responsibility. In addition, the government isn’t responsible for protecting its citizens from the negative consequences that would result from breaking the law. Mary Anne Warren, a pro-abortion polemicist agrees with this outlook:

On June 20, the United States Supreme Court ruled, in American Legion et al. v. American Humanist Association et al. that a 94-year old cross memorializing local fallen World War I soldiers and standing on public land in Bladensburg, Maryland, was not a violation of the First Amendment. The 40-foot cross had been under attack for years, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals had found it infringed the First Amendment, a ruling the Supreme Court overturned. The ruling came just as Catholics in the United States begin their “Fortnight for Freedom” to reflect on religious rights.

Marie Hain wants to share beauty — and she’s willing to do it for a song, or a painting, or any inspired work of art. Her efforts are bearing fruit in the fertile ground of a thriving Catholic community nestled in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. With Nashville country singer/songwriter Marie Miller — known for the bluegrass themes that ring true from her native Front Royal, Virginia, community — Hain has developed “Brillante,” an annual summer camp focused on forming youth in the classical forms of artistic expression. Hain — who has studied drawing, painting, fresco and sculpture at such prestigious schools as the Romanelli Studio in Florence, Italy; Studio Incomminati in Philadelphia; and Grand Central Atelier in New York — also holds a degree in philosophy and literature from Christendom College in Front Royal.

In 1858, Bernadette Soubirous of Lourdes was favored with 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary while kneeling before her luminous presence in the Grotto of Massabielle. This year marks the 175th anniversary of her birth and the 140th anniversary of her death. In preparation for the historic moment, last year, relics of the young shepherdess were carried on pilgrimage from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes to churches throughout France, Germany and Italy, many of them filled to overflowing with the faithful. The relics are now being venerated at the Lourdes sanctuary by thousands of pilgrims during what has been designated “The Bernadette Year.”

Almost six years ago, when my fiancé (now husband) and I sat down to answer a questionnaire for our marriage prep course, it became clear that his view of the sacrament we were entering was deeper than mine. I was aware that when couples married in the Catholic Church and then divorced civilly, they were still considered husband and wife in the eyes of the church. After all, the Catechism of the Catholic Church clearly states, “a ratified and consummated marriage cannot be dissolved by any human power or for any reason other than death” (CCC 2382).

Who would not doubt their senses if they saw a formerly dead person walking around and asking for a bite of fish? Who would not want to know if this were some sort of sick joke by those who wanted to prove that these followers of Christ were delusional in the worst way? Thomas doubted because Thomas knew what we all think we know. Dead men don’t come back to life.
