Sunday October 23 is “World Mission Sunday “
Pope Francis invites the entire Church to support mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the world’s most vulnerable communities. Remember that our parish (Saint Joseph) started as a Mission. In addition to our regular offertory at Mass, we–along with the diocese encourage our people, especially here at Saint Joseph, to generously participate for a significant collection to be sent to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
Please keep the Pope’s missions in your prayers. May God bless you.
The History of World Mission Sunday
Ever since 1926, the Church has celebrated World Mission Day, which falls in 2022 on 23 October. Pope Francis released his message for the occurrence focused on the theme: “You shall be my witnesses.”
The Pope reflected on three foundations of “the life and mission of every disciple”. The first, he said, is “the call of every Christian to bear witness to Christ,” calling it the “heart of Jesus’ teaching to the disciples.”
Pope Francis said Christ was the first to be sent to proclaim, as the Father’s missionary and as His “faithful witness.”
